Developmental editing goes deeper: it diagnoses structural problems and offers specific, actionable suggestions for how to fix them. Think of beta reading as the diagnosis and developmental editing as the treatment plan.

Most manuscripts only need one or two services depending on where they are in the writing process. Early drafts benefit most from beta reading or developmental editing. Later drafts benefit from line editing and copy editing. Proofreading and formatting come right at the end. When you fill out the inquiry form, I'll recommend the right fit based on your manuscript's stage.

Turnaround times vary by manuscript length and current workload. As a general guide: beta reads typically take 2–4 weeks; developmental edits 3–5 weeks; line and copy edits 2–4 weeks; proofreads and formatting 1–2 weeks. I'll give you a firm timeline estimate in your quote.
